On Friday, I was let loose on a group of unsuspecting HR types thanks to PayCare who organised a wellbeing workshop for their customers.
Those poor ladies and gent's really didn't know what they were letting themselves in for.
Not because I do anything mean in workshops.
Just, if you haven't met me, or read any of these wonderful blog posts then you're unlikely to realise quite how straight talking I can be.
Yes, I'll admit I do go off on a tangent but I tend to say things which are quite full-on (e.g., stress kills, gossiping kills...).
Plus, tangents make blog posts more fun.
Anyhow back to my fun Friday!
So, the lovely guys and gals at PayCare are completely on my wavelength and as I turned up I was invited to decorate a minced pie.
I mean - seriously what a fantastic way to get their customers meeting and chatting to one another.
At no point was anyone stood around feeling awkward.
After a little while teas and coffees were drank, pictures of minced pies were taken (it was a competition after all), and everyone made their way to their seats for the workshop.
If you have ever done a workshop before then you'll know looking up and seeing everyone intently staring at you is the worst.
You can't help thinking someones going to pull out a rotten tomato and hurl it at you...
It's just impossible to gauge whether people are enjoying it, hating it, falling asleep...
Anyhow, thankfully there were no tomatoes (or yawns).
As I got into my rhythm and different essential oils were passed round to combat stress.
Stats on stress reduction were thrown in only to be met with looks of shock.
My favourite stat is from the Vanderbilt University Hospital who trialed diffusing essential oils on a ward for 30 days. Prior to the trial 42% of people said they were stressed very often then after the trial this went down to just 3%.
I mean, a reduction in stress, in a hospital by 39% just by diffusing a citrus essential oil on a ward is just crazy.
What's even crazier is the staff didn't have to do anything differently.
There's no time taken out to meditate, go for a walk or de-stress.
The oils are seeping into their system while they're working and de-stressing them whether they want to or not (and something I take advantage of in my own home when my partner is not in the best mood...)
Every time I looked around the room there were oils being strategically placed on pulse points, on wrists and snorted straight from the bottle.
This scenario is quite literally a workshop facilitators dream.
When the conversation is flowing people take in more information and the whole atmosphere in the room just changes.
I'm not going to lie, I did cheat a little and send the super chirpy oils around first to help give everyone a little lift :)
The workshop finished and there was a queue of ladies and gents ready to explore reducing workplace stress with essential oils.
I'd done my job (and had a great time doing it).
I do all kinds of workshops, training and seminars and I have to be honest this was my favourite yet.
