You’ll also not need to pump them full of copious amounts of caffeine.
Both tend to have horrible withdrawal symptoms which leave people felling far worse.
I’m going to share with you some good clean (and free) tips for getting your team to have a long lasting buzz.
Before I get into the what – here’s a little why:
Why would you even want an energized team?
Erm... because the more energy someone has the more they are able to work like a trooper before they pass out.
Or in real and non-slave terms – to avoid them giving up when it hits 2pm.
OK, so that’s technically not true.
Some people will sail through 2pm and be pumped and primed right through until 6pm.
These guys however probably didn’t get started until 11 am…
Let’s be truthful - it doesn’t matter whether they’re a morning lark or night owl if you’ve got them in your grasps between 9 & 5 you are 100% expecting them to put in a full days graft.
I mean it’s not like you’re only paying them for half a day!
So how do you get a team of people to be pumped for a full day?
Simple make them love what they’re doing.
Just stop and think for a moment about something you love doing
Whether it’s bike riding, reading, watching films, going out with your friends or baking (and eating) cake it really doesn’t matter.
If you love what you’re doing you will do it for hours on end and be psyched to keep going even when you’re brain has started to give up.
It’s the first thing you think about first thing in the morning.
It’s the only thing you talk about.
And it’s the last thing you think about at the end of the night.
Now, I’m not saying you need to get your employees to have an obsession with their role (and trust me no one will ever love anything more than I love cake and even sometimes I pass over the chocolate cake for an apple turnover…)
Chances are no one is going to become hyper absorbed in their job when they’re at home, out with their friends or in the bakery…
No one is ever going to be breaking down the office door to get behind their desk.
But you’re not after that.
You just need them to be energized while they’re physically in work.
You just need them to be so motivated whilst they’re in work they can’t talk about what they’re doing without being so animated you’re slightly concerned they’ve taken up Makaton to communicate more words in the same space in time.
Now, while you’re doing all the awesome engagement things to get them to love what you do (see other posts & free checklist) there are some sneaky tricks which can help lift the energy in the office and keep your team focused for longer.
Here’s 3 you can easily work into your office without causing too much hullabaloo.
There’s plenty more you can do to energize your office but remember the most important thing about any type of employee engagement is to lead from the front so make sure you’re snacking on walnuts, striking yoga poses and going for a stroll.
